SOS! Wanstead Transition needs you!!

SOS!!!! SPECIAL MEETING AT GREEN DRINKS
When: Thursday May 3rd
Time: 8pm onwards
Where: The Nightingale pub, Nightingale Lane, E11 2EY

Wanstead Transition Initiative is at crunch point. We don’t have enough people to sustain the project.
If we don’t find new people with new energy, time and interest it is highly likely that we will fold. If you would like to see it find a way forward, and have something to offer, please come along to the Nightingale on Thursday.
People have expressed interest in communal gardening, and growing local food. There is the possibility of land available. We need people who can help to make it happen.
You will find us in the back room. At the very least, you will find a friendly welcome.

Come to Green Drinks Thursday April 5th

GREEN DRINKS

When: Thursday April 3rd
Time: 7.30pm onwards
Where: The Nightingale pub, Nightingale Lane, E11 2EY

This month we hope as many people will make the effort to come as possible.
A chance to get together to discuss green issues- Hope you all know that it is the conversation and some article of clothing you wear that will be green- not the drinks!!
We want to use these evenings to plan what we all want to do, particularly in terms of growing local food, growing workshops etc.
You may like to know that we will be offering re-usable Wanstead Transition coffee cups for everyone to buy and use to stop the use of throw-away cups that contribute to damaging the environment.
A great chance to meet like-minded people and get something growing.
A special welcome to those who come to us for the first time, maybe through the FoE event.

Climate Week Event 16th March Wanstead Library

We are all invited to this free showing of the film ‘Farm for the Future’ organised by Friends of the Earth.

A FREE EVENT FOR CLIMATE CHANGE WEEK

Offered by Wanstead and Woodford Friends of the Earth

Film- Farm for the Future
at Wanstead Library
on Friday March 16th
6.30pm-9.30pm

Snacks, tea coffee and soft drinks available
Brief introductory talk, Short Quiz (with prizes), free goody bag including info sheets on climate change, bio-diversity, local FoE group, local Transition Initiatives, Easy to be Green booklet.

We showed this film last year and found it hugely inspiring. It shows that modern farming practices, relying heavily on oil, are not sustainable and offers a fresh and exciting alternative for growing food together in areas more like gardens than farms. One with the power to solve the world’s food shortages without damaging the earth.

AND we at WTI have a vision for a community garden in Wanstead. Come along to this evening, find out more and get involved!!

Green Drinks is back

We are back again at the Nightingale pub (Nightingale Lane, Wanstead) for Green Drinks on Thursday 1st December. Come and join us for a ‘green-ish’ sociable evening, from 7.30pm. Meet some local allotment holders (it’s their pre Christmas get together too).

There’s also every chance we could end up in The Lane (Indian restaurant 20 metres from the pub) afterwards. Wear green and bring a friend whether they are green or not!

Important opportunity for IT enthusiasts and communicators

We in Wanstead Transition Initiative are proud of our website, and our internet presence – through Twitter and Flickr – important ways to spread the word about living sustainably, inform people of events, share information and ideas, and join in discussions. Dan has created and sustained all this beautifully, and now is unexpectedly leaving London very soon – leaving us with a brilliant facility ready to be taken on by new people with IT and/or communication skills, and some available time, energy and enthusiasm.

We also need people to take on creating posters and ads, and liaising with local press.

Could you be part of our web and publicity team? Are you interested? Ready for a challenge? A great chance to get involved, be part of developing WTI. You might be able to help with:

  • Maintaining our blog
  • Managing our Twitter account
  • Updating our Google calendar
  • Taking photos of our events
  • Creating posters
  • Liaising with local press

Dan would be happy to discuss this with you. Please contact him by emailing danielhoye (at) yahoo.com or calling 07736 669 232
